CBD vs THC: the benefits of both cannabinoids and more!

The CBD vs THC discussion is ever-growing!

THC vs CBD

CBD vs THC is what everyone is wondering after the recent rise in popularity of products containing CBD. Both are cannabinoids from the cannabis plant, and both have their benefits. But let’s break it down further!

Read below to find out more!

Although CBD and THC are both cannabinoids extracted from the cannabis plant, they affect the body in different ways!

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid that does not administer any psychoactive effects to your brain hence there is no high feeling. Recent studies are speculating the ever-growing list of possible medicinal benefits of CBD for pain, anxiety, sleep and more!

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

Whereas, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) when ingested causes the user to feel high due to its interactions with the brain. This can be considered as a disadvantage for many hence why they change to CBD products. Products containing THC are much more popular for recreational use in countries where they are legal for example, Canada and certain states in USA.

What benefits do each of these substances provide?

For CBD:

  • Helps you with sleeping (reduces effects of insomnia and other sleeping disorders).

  • Decreases pain (especially good for joint pain such as arthritis pain or gout).

  • Can aid with nausea or stop the feeling of vomiting (often used by cancer patients)

  • Clears the mind and helps with anxiety (calms the brain reducing overthinking)

  • Increases immune function (helps your immune system recover cells faster)

  • Reduces symptoms of epilepsy (Epidiolex a common drug containing CBD)

  • Many more!!

For THC:

  • Helps you with sleeping (reduces effects of insomnia and other sleeping disorders).

  • Decreases pain (especially good for joint pain such as arthritis pain or gout).

  • Can aid with nausea or stop the feeling of vomiting (often used by cancer patients)

  • Used to increase appetite

  • Muscle spasticity

  • Many more !!

As you can see, they share some benefits but let’s talk about the side effects of each.

Side effects of CBD vs THC

Research into the development of CBD as a medicinal product has shown that the substance can be well tolerated even in very large doses. There are almost no side effects when consuming CBD alone. But when side effects did occur, they were most likely caused by a drug-drug interaction when the consumer took substances simultaneously.

For THC there are some noticeable side effects that differ from person to person and from the amount consumed.

Most commonly THC can cause:

  • Increased heart rate

  • Reduced motor functions and slower reaction times

  • Dries out the lips and causes red eyes. (depends of method used for consumption)

  • Can sometimes cause memory loss and lack of motivation.

Conclusion

To conclude CBD vs THC is an interesting topic and both are being used more commonly around the world in the light of new medical research. The two cannabinoids both have their benefits and could be the next big advancement in natural health remedies!
